I learned Reiki Healing in 1990 and became certified at Reiki Level III prior to 2000. Reiki is an ancient Sanskrit / Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is administered by a "laying on of hands" that allows energy to flow. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us, the same basic energy that allows us to be alive. Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words. "Rei" symbolizes "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power." Ki represents "life force energy" so the combination of the two equals "spiritually guided life force energy." Although each person is affected uniquely, a treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you, calming every part of your being. Relaxing, balancing, energizing, and nurturing are descriptors of Reiki Healing. It is channeled through 12 basic positions of the hands held lightly over the body. Actual physical touch is not mandatory to be effective.
As described by Hawayo Takata, a modern Reiki master who opened up a new life for many people seeking healing treatment, "when a human being has pain, problems, he or she can draw from it. It is an ethereal source, a wave length of great power which can revitalize and restore harmony". There is quite a story about Hawayo's experience with Reiki which is really quite amazing reflecting the practice that it is. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you'd like more information. Healing normally takes time, but I've seen some amazing things happen in an unbelievably short time.
Because Reiki is a healing art, I do practice it with some flexibility in terms of financial scale, especially for those compromised with major or terminal illness. However, the basic price lists in person as $50 for an abbreviated 50-minute Reiki Healing; $80 for a complete 80-Minute Reiki Session (including Introduction / Discussion / Energy Absorption / Review). Shorter sessions are also available comparably such as 1/2 price for 1/2 time. It's all about opening up energy channels in positive and healing ways that is caring, gentle, and reasonable.
